What is the Green Cell Youth Program?
Children in middle and high schools participate in service-based learning as part of Green Cell’s youth program, conceiving and implementing various green initiatives. The group meets every Sunday at 2.30pm (10am the second Sunday every month). We have about 50 kids in the program now, and they work on many youth-led initiatives such as the summer camp, science fair, and eco club curriculum. As volunteers, they participate in Green Cell events. This youth group is led by three youth board members and two youth advisory members with the goal of making these kids future leaders in sustainability, irrespective of their field and career choices.
In the youth program, children are given the opportunity to lead a project that interests them. Currently, we are identifying a personal project that each kid will undertake over the remainder of the year. Ramya Shivkumar is the youth program manager. The adult youth coordinators, Pankaj Rajankar, Prachi Tarte, Bhairavi Chandramouli, and Akila Giridharan assist and manage different projects within the program.
